Spring Love: The Button Up Shirt

Dahlings, the Spring 2011 checklist continues with a staple that you’re going to see a whole lot more of this season: the button up shirt. It’s been one of my favorite go tos recently to create an easy pulled together look. The button-up shirt does have a reputation for being stuffy. But with the fun choices out this Spring, that is no longer the case. I favor patterns like stripes and florals but I’m really into the solid colors as well for a more understated look. Despite the reemergence this Spring, the button up is an oft-worn, and invaluable piece that should be on rotation in every style connoisseur’s closet. Here’s five to love.

Red plaid button down. A classic, can’t go wrong with this one from Karmaloop. Perfect for weekend wear and casual Fridays at the office. Also love this one from J.Crew.

Patterns. A button up does not have to be your classic chambray or plaid. Venture out into the world of patterns for a pick me up. Love this one from Madewell which features a fun dot pattern.

Oversize it. I love big shirts. Even though the style gods frown upon little bitties like me from doing so but sometimes a gal needs an all you can eat shirt that still looks fly. Love this one from Rachel Roy. The print is so fun and I can easily see this working with simple belt. This is another great option from Need Supply.

Chambray. The Chambray shirt is so classic. It's ridiculous. But why not update the look with a chic Chambray Western Shirt from Juicy Couture .

The Classic White Shirt. I love a classic white shirt. While I love the look on others, I get anxious wearing white. But loving the ease of this rolled up tuxedo shirt from Calvin Klein.

The classic button down comes in sorts of fabrics this season ( cotton, chambray, silk, rayon and even sheer) and at all price points. But it is all about the fit. Make sure the shoulder seam rests right on or over your shoulder. The best cut is one that curves into the waist but the boxy and oversize cuts work well if you  have the attitude and body shape to pull it off. This past week I've been loving the button up wearing at least three of my favs over the weekend and at work. I just recently snagged this one from  Old Navy
